The Stout Motor Car Company, founded by William B. Stout in 1916, was an American automotive manufacturer known for its innovative designs and contributions to aviation. Stout’s most notable creation was the Stout Scarab, introduced in the early 1930s, which is often considered one of the world’s first minivans. The Scarab featured a revolutionary design with a streamlined, aerodynamic body and a rear-mounted Ford V8 engine. Inside, the Scarab offered a spacious and flexible interior layout, resembling a modern passenger van with seating for up to seven occupants. Despite its groundbreaking design and innovative features, the Stout Scarab failed to gain widespread popularity due to its high price and limited production numbers. However, its forward-thinking design and advanced engineering have earned it a place in automotive history as a pioneering example of automotive innovation.
