Talbot was a prominent French automobile manufacturer that flourished during the early to mid-20th century. Originally founded in 1903 as “Clément-Talbot Limited” in the United Kingdom, the company gained a reputation for producing luxury vehicles known for their elegance, performance, and craftsmanship. Talbot cars were favored by aristocrats and celebrities, featuring stylish designs and powerful engines. In the 1930s, the French branch of the company, Automobiles Talbot SA, emerged as a separate entity and continued to produce cars under the Talbot brand. The Talbot-Lago brand, formed through a merger with the French automaker Lago, gained acclaim for its successful racing cars, winning prestigious events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Despite facing challenges during World War II and the subsequent economic downturn, Talbot remained a respected name in the automotive world until its eventual decline in the 1950s. Today, Talbot automobiles are revered as classic examples of French automotive design and engineering prowess, with surviving models prized by collectors for their beauty and historical significance.
