Gilbern was a small British car manufacturer based in Pontypridd, Wales, known for producing distinctive sports cars from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. Founded by Giles Smith and Bernard Friese, the company’s name “Gilbern” was derived from a combination of their first names. Gilbern cars were crafted with a focus on performance and luxury, featuring sleek designs and powerful engines. The company’s most famous model, the Gilbern Genie, debuted in 1966, boasting a stylish coupe body and a robust V6 engine sourced from Ford. Despite their relatively small production numbers, Gilbern cars garnered a loyal following among enthusiasts for their unique charm and spirited driving experience. However, financial difficulties eventually led to the company’s closure in 1973. Today, Gilbern automobiles are prized as rare and collectible classics, representing a distinct chapter in British automotive history.
